The FSK PTA is excited to announce a new, fun take-home science experiment program starting at FSK this year in grades K-3. Approximately twice a month, a Science Sack will come home with your child on a Wednesday. Inside will be all the supplies and instructions for a science experiment along with a science notebook in which your child can record his or her observations about the experiment. The expectation is that parents and children will do the experiments together.
The Science Sack is due back in school the following Monday. It is extremely important that the sack be returned on time so that it can be passed out to another classroom, and another student has an opportunity to do the experiment. If you have difficulty returning your sack on time, your child may not be able to participate in the program.
The experiments complement the science curriculum taught in the classroom for each grade level. However, these experiments are meant to stand on their own, so it does not matter whether your child has learned the particular scientific principle demonstrated in the experiment yet or not.
The purpose of these sacks is to expose our students to more science and to demonstrate that science is fun!
This program is funded by the PTA and is run by parent volunteers. In order for this program to be a success, we need your help. If you would like to volunteer for the Science Sack program, please please contact the Science Sack Coordinator, Carol Bauss, at Board_member_cb@fskey.org.
